New automated Smart Rooms have been launched in US hospitals to improve the quality of patient care.

Smart Rooms will enable patients to access health charts, medical databases and entertainment through a touch-screen, said the Kansas-based health information technology provider Cerner.

Smart Rooms will enable medical staff to access reports and electronic medical records from devices like life-support and intravenous drips, the company said.

Access is provided to these records through a remote that scans the hospital staff-member’s badge, using RFID technology.
