Seattle Children’s Hospital in Washington, US, has deployed a data protection system to make research data and patient health information in the hospital’s laptops and work stations secure.

The technology from GuardianEdge protects information stored on removable external devices such as USB drives.

Seattle Children’s Hospital vice president and chief technology officer Wes Wright said that with this advancement the IT staff can be confident about the security of patient information.

“We want our doctors, nurses and researchers to be able to focus on patient care and not worry about information security,” he said.

The hospital serves as paediatric and adolescent medical referral centre for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.

It is also a teaching, clinical and research site for the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
