The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada has deployed wireless LAN to better collect and transport patient records as well as managing voice calls.

The Aruba Networks infrastructure will collect data from wireless smart pumps, enable safe access to patient records at the time of delivering care and manage staff voice calls.

It will also allow data access to mobile staff performing their duties in remote wards.

The hospital’s Support and Network Services director Gary Nero said that an important aspect of the programme was linking patient pharmaceutical records with real-time drug infusion dosing.

“The wireless LAN also carries voice traffic so that situations can be quickly addressed, regardless of where the attending physician is working,” Nero said.
