Abu Dhabi’s Tawam Hospital has launched fully equipped mobile mammography units in rural areas of the state to highlight the importance of early breast cancer detection.

The mobile unit accompanied by a team of experienced professionals will regularly visit rural areas and conduct screening free of charge for women over 40, Gulf News reports.

Tawam Hospital, which is affiliated to the John Hopkins Medicine in the US, aims to provide easy access to mammography in rural areas where women have difficulty travelling and tend to delay their check-ups.

The screening process begins with onsite registration, followed by a clinical breast examination and then mammogram screening, which takes less than 30 minutes.

Normal results are given to the patient by telephone but a written report can also be provided, if requested.
