Challenges around the use of software in electronic medical records (EMR) are the most critical factors impeding the widespread adoption by healthcare organisations, according to a new white paper.
The US Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s EHR Usability Task Force has released a new white paper, offering a detailed review of usability for EMR.
Author of ‘Defining and Testing EMR Usability: Principles and Proposed Methods of EMR Usability Evaluation and Rating’ Dr Jeff Belden said that addressing these issues will increase the take-up of EMR systems.
“Through our research, we found that usability as a requirement in the certification process could benefit product development for more usable EMR products and give users or decision makers more confidence in selecting clinical EMR systems,” Belden said.
