The Dubai Health Authority has announced a Dh1bn ($272m) fund for the expansion and renovation of Sheikh Rashid hospital, to accommodate the increasing number of patients.

The money will be used to restructure the existing complex and expand existing units. The number of beds will be increased to 700 from 545, according to a report in the Khaleej Times.

Sub-specialities for laparoscopic, spine, hand and pelvic surgeries are planned and the new Jebel Ali trauma centre will also be linked to Rashid Hospital.
