Yemen’s National Centre for Tumors has been given a Dh19.5m ($5.3m) grant from the Abu Dhabi Government to modernise its medical equipment and patient facilities, according to a report in the Khaleej Times.

The money will be used to buy state-of-the-art X-ray units, laboratory facilities and diagnostic equipment, and to build in-patient facilities, waiting rooms and transportation amenities.

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) acting general manager Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said the project was one of the leading medical initiatives to increase the level of service offered in the country, the Khaleej Times reports.

“It puts in place sophisticated equipment that allows highly accurate treatment procedures and more precise results,” Al Suwaidi said.

The ADFD has given Dh1.3bn ($350m) to development projects in Yemen and is funding more than 34 development projects in developing countries.
