Digital mammography offers strong returns to healthcare providers and increases their capacity for patient throughput, according to a new report from the research firm KLAS.
Choosing full-field digital mammography (FFDM) solutions over traditional film technology helps hospitals and imaging centres balance their technology budgets, the report ‘Digital Mammography: Hot Market in a Cool Economy’ said.
When it is used with complementary technologies, FFDM could reduce patient waiting times for mammography tests, resulting in a strong return on investment, the study said.
Almost half of the Mammography Quality Standards Act-certified facilities in the US have adopted digital mammography equipment, according to US Food and Drug Administration figures.
