A European team has created new high-tech clothes embedded with sensors that allow doctors to monitor the wearer’s heart, breathing and body temperature.

The EU-funded HealthWear remote health monitoring technology is designed especially for people suffering from heart and chronic diseases and aims to reduce hospital visits and empower patients to lead more active lives.

The “smart” clothes need only a mobile phone-sized device to collect and transmit information between the patient and doctor, ScienceDaily reports.

Fewer hospital visits as a result of patients wearing the clothes would bring significant efficiency gains and cost savings for healthcare providers, experts said.
