New York’s St Barnabas Hospital has implemented a computerised physician order entry (CPOE) solution as a foundation to establishing an electronic health record (EHR) in its acute care environments.

Eclipsys’ CPOE aims to improve the speed and accuracy of physician orders, enhancing care coordination and clinical decision support, the company said.

The solution begins the process of EHR implementation, aimed at meeting the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of using HER technology in a meaningful way by 2011 and maximising stimulus payment opportunities.

When the system is integrated with Eclipsys’ other clinical solutions, such as Sunrise Acute Care, it will help improve medication management workflows at St Barnabas, the company said.
