Many hospitals are turning to radiology informatics to assist radiologists in the hope of eliminating reporting errors and wrong interpretations, according to analysts Frost & Sullivan (F&S).

Radiology informatics is an artificial intelligence system that interprets images produced by different imaging modalities and helps radiologists adopt quicker interpretation, F&S said.

Hospitals are currently outsourcing radiological examinations due to a lack of qualified staff such as technologists, physicians and radiologists.

F&S research analyst Shriram Shanmugham said that the market for radiology informatics is in its nascent stage, requiring extensive research backed by funding.
