The third stage of the Nepean Hospital expansion project has begun in New South Wales, Australia.

The A$96.4m project includes the building of a new East Block, and expansion of the in-centre renal dialysis stations, mental and dental health services and the intensive care unit, the government said.

Major equipment upgrades and refurbishments will also be provided as part of the redevelopment.

In addition, A$17m has been awarded to the University of Sydney for the Nepean Clinical School, which will be built nearby.

The project, scheduled to be complete by February 2013, is expected to improve patient care and support medical staff and paramedics.
