New Zealand’s Junior Doctors Need Better Training, Says Report

The training of New Zealand’s junior doctor workforce needs urgent improvement, according to a new government report.

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Commission Report said that junior doctors in the country feel undervalued and dissatisfied with training characterised by industrial conflict and poor experiences.

District Health Boards (DHBs) should be held accountable for RMO training and senior doctors should have a more significant role, the report said.

The newly commissioned Clinical Training Agency Board will assume responsiblility for improving the training and the apprenticeship of resident doctors, the RMO report said.
