The Australian Government has signed a contract to expand and refurbish the A$5m Queanbeyan GP Super Clinic in the state of New South Wales.

The clinic will be expanded to focus on preventative care and chronic disease management through self-management classes and chronic disease clinics, the government said.

The new clinic will feature GPs, practice nurses and allied health professionals including a podiatrist, dietitian, audiologist and diabetes and asthma educators.

Expansion work will start by mid-2010 and the clinic is expected to be operational in mid-2011, the government said.

The clinic is part of the government’s A$275m commitment to build 31 GP Super Clinics across Australia.
