The Indian state of Kerala has started setting up additional screening centres and has asked for a greater supply of Tamiflu tablets to deal with the H1N1 influenza pandemic.

In addition to the extra screen centres public and private hospitals in Kerala will also be set up with screening facilities, the state’s health department said.

Facilities for taking throat swabs for the diagnosis of the virus will also be provided at select hospitals and doctors will be trained in their use, The Hindu reports.

More personal protection equipment and masks for doctors and paramedical staff will be needed in the future, the news agency reports.
