The Indian Government has approved 16 private hospitals in the state of Maharashtra to test and treat H1N1 influenza patients.

Out of the 21 hospitals that had volunteered from Mumbai, 11 have been cleared, while five have been approved in Pune, The Hindu reports.

The hospitals will provide Tamiflu to patients showing symptoms and to immediate relatives as a precautionary step, government officials said.

The state is also expected to receive an additional 500,000 doses of Tamiflu from the central government, the news agency reports.
