Cancer care in Wales is to get a £500,000 boost from a new grant announced by health minister Edwina Hart.

National cancer standards have been used by the Welsh Assembly to specify what the National Health Service and Health Commission Wales need to do to align with current cancer services, nursingtimes.net reports.

The funding includes more than £250,000 for improving on-screen histopathology reporting and monitoring services and more than £150,000 to Wales’ three cancer networks to improve areas not meeting the national standards.

Funds have been awarded on the recommendation of the Cancer Services Co-ordinating Group, with money also being granted for laparoscopic training for colorectal surgeons.
