The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has a launched a “gateway service” to oversee the follow-up care needed by patients visiting the accident and emergency department at Epsom Hospital.

Epsom Hospital and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and MEDLInC (Molesey, Epsom Downs and Leatherhead Integrated Care) are jointly running the scheme that provides treatment to patients closer to home.

The gateway team reviews each case referred via the A&E department and plans integrated follow-up care with the most appropriate agencies, the reports.

The aim is for it to speed up care and cut costs.
