The New Zealand Government has granted NZ$115,000 in start-up funding and an ongoing NZ$ 402,000 per year for a national Maternal Fetal Medicine Network.
The national network will connect foetal medicine specialists across the country and help them manage patient needs by optimising existing resources.
The new service will provide physicians with access to clinical protocols for rare conditions and enable them to contact specialists for advice, the government said.
The network will also offer an education programme for current and future specialists, midwives and clinical associates.
The government has plans to launch a new website that will act as the central contact point for health professionals and provide information for women and their families.
