Three organisations in the US have started sending clinical test results, reports and medical information via their health information exchanges (HIE).
Ohio-based HealthBridge and Indiana’s Health Information Exchange (IHIE) and HealthLINC in Indiana have begun facilitating exchange among their regions, using clinical information standards to enable the transfer of data.
The HIE network will connect 15,000 physicians, 50 hospitals and 12 million patient records electronically to reduce duplication of tests and provide faster, more accurate information to doctors, IHIE said.
The live network will also enable faster follow-up care, better health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs, HealthBridge said.
