India’s Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital will open an Rs10 crore dedicated retina care unit by the end of September 2009 to cater to the increasing number of diabetes patients with problems.
The new unit will be a four-storey building spread across 10,000ft² and feature two operation theatres, an angio machine and laser equipment, economictimes.indiatimes.com reports.
The eyecare chain plans to establish six retinal Centres of Excellence (CoE) across the country by 2012–13, Dr Agarwal’s said.
Each super-specialised CoE will serve 400–500 patients per day, hospital authorities said.
The hospital network intends to have presence in five countries by 2010, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the news agency reports.
