More than a third of GP surgeries in the UK have seen patients suffering from complications after having been misdiagnosed with the H1N1 A influenza virus.

Effects ranged from mild adverse reactions to the antiviral drug Tamiflu to severe cases of tonsillitis, meningitis and pneumonia, The Telegraph reports.

Three out of the 205 family doctors and practice managers surveyed by the health magazine Pulse reported a patient dying after being misdiagnosed.
