The Australian Government has given a grant of $61.3m (AU$70m) to the Garvan St Vincent’s Cancer Centre in Sydney to expand its research capacity.
The project will help modernise Australia’s cancer services and improve survival and treatment outcomes for the 100,000 people diagnosed each year with cancer, the government said.
The funding will be used to house a research and training-focused cancer treatment centre in Garvan St Vincent’s campus to enable specialised research into the molecular biology of cancer, the government said.
A new world-class cancer research facility will be developed to help researchers and clinicians rapidly develop new treatments by using the latest scientific knowledge and technology.
