A national health IT week was launched last week in the US state of Washington in a bid to promote the importance of health IT in the country’s healthcare reform as the senate debates President Barack Obama’s proposals.

The National Health IT Week 2009 focused on developments surrounding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and healthcare reform, futuregov.net reports.

The ARRA provides grants and timelines to care providers to adopt a “meaningful use of health IT”, futuregov.net reports.

The senate is considering Obama’s reforms to the country’s healthcare system that aim to provide more universal healthcare coverage.
