Australia will soon have a national registration and accreditation system for health practitioners where they will no longer be required to register in each state they work in to improve patient safety.
The government has introduced the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Bill 2009 (Qld) to the Queensland Parliament, which will be the basis for a national scheme to begin on 1 July 2010.
The legislation will cover registration and accreditation, complaints, privacy and information sharing and transitional arrangements, the government said.
Health practitioners needing to only register once will enable the mobilisation of a workforce from across the country during national emergencies, the government said.
