The construction of the €24m St Francis Hospice has begun in Ireland and will provide palliative care services when it opens in 2011.

The palliative care facility will feature 24 single-room in-patient beds, a full range of therapies including complementary therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, Irish Times reports.

The facility, located in Blanchardstown, will also house a hospice day care centre as well as education and conference facilities, the newspaper reports.

The project, to be built using private donations, has secured €3.7m already and expects to raise the remaining amount to complete the project in July 2011, officials said.
