New patient transportation systems for those suffering from highly contagious airborne infectious diseases such as swine flu and Sars has been created by Israeli company Savion Industries.

The mobile stretcher chambers enable first-line patient transportation from initial reception through to where patients can be hospitalised in sterile isolation units.

The system provides complete air circulation to patients through a carbon filter and blower and eliminates any expulsion of contaminated air for the safety of the attendant medical staff.

Patients of all ages, whether conscious, unconscious or on ventilation can be accommodated in the units, Savion said.
