Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand is aiming to increase its number of beds, having seen a record number of patients at its adult emergency department.

The number of patients seen at the hospital’s adults emergency department in September 2009 was 4,053 compared to 3,513 in the same month last year, according to The New Zealand Herald.

The Auckland hospital is working to meet the government’s new six-hour target for patients but it may take two years to get there, hospital authorities said.
