Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, US has deployed an anti-kidnapping safety device to prevent cases of baby abduction from the hospital.

Designed by McRoberts Security Technologies, the My Child Infant Protection System is put in a clamp and snapped onto the newborn’s still-attached umbilical cord, according to

If someone tries to remove a newborn from its designated place, an alarm goes off, doors are automatically locked and a monitor placed at the nurses’ station shows images of the exact location of the attempted abduction.

The device is already in use in 600 hospitals across the country to prevent baby abduction.
