St Mary’s Hospital in London, UK, has begun trials of a wireless digital plaster to track patients’ vital signs.

The wireless digital plaster looks like an ordinary sticking plaster with added electronics and can wirelessly feed information into a hospital’s network.

The digital plaster uses Toumaz Technology’s Sensium technology, which uses a tiny radio incorporated into a silicon chip.

The first trials have been completed and in the second phase the plaster will be placed on patients undergoing surgery, who will be monitored before, during and after.
