Lancaster General Health in the US has implemented an auto-programmed smart infusion pump at the patient bedside to reduce medication errors.

Following the installation of the smart infusion pumps the hospital has reduced the time spent programming infusion pumps by 24.8%.

The number of steps needed to install them has also been reduced from 17 to seven.

The bi-directional integrated data flow of the system allows infusion-specific data from the pump to be automatically charted in the electronic medication administration record within the patient electronic health record.
