US MaineGeneral Medical Center has filed a letter of intent to build $322m hospital in Augusta and renovate the Thayer Campus in Waterville with a $10minvestment.

The new facility will be located next to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta.

The hospita – which will be opened in 2015 – will provide inpatient services combining MaineGeneral’s Augusta and Waterville campuses, and Thayer Campus will provide outpatient services.

The project will be financed through an equity down payment, capital fundraising and hospital bonds and borrowing to be paid back over 30 years, according to a hospital press release.

The construction of the facility is expected to begin in autumn of 2011, subject to the approval of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
