The UK’s Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath has warned visitors to stay away unless their visit to hospital is absolutely necessary, to prevent the spread of an infectious virus.

After an outbreak of a winter vomiting and diarrhoea bug, staff and patients have been affected by the highly infectious virus in the hospital.

RUH staff are asking the public to telephone hospital wards in advance to discuss whether they should visit to control the spread of infection.

The public have been asked not to visit the hospital if they have recently suffered flu-like symptoms or symptoms of diarrhoea as they may be infectious for 48 hours or more after recovering.
