People suffering from thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) may be at significantly greater risk of having an intracranial aneurysm (ICA), according to a new study.

According to the Yale School of Medicine researchers, people with TAA were nine times more likely than those in the general population to have ICAs.

The study published in The American Journal of Cardiology said hypertension also increases the prevalence of both kinds of aneurysms at the same time.

The study, conducted on 212 patients from 1997 to 2009, was supported by a National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Medical Student Research Fellowship.
