Europe’s picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) market is expected to grow over the next five years because of an increased focus on the use of IT in healthcare, according to a new study.

The PACS market in Europe is forecast to reach $848m in 2015 from $568.7m in 2008, the report by market analyst firm GlobalData said.

Europe’s radiology PACS market is projected to reach $557m in 2015 from $384m in 2008.

The cardio PACS market in Europe is projected to be the fastest-growing segment and will have a combined annual growth rate of nearly 9% between 2008 and 2015 to reach $93m.

The introduction of clinical applications and workflow management tools have transformed the functionality of PACS from a viewing and storage solution for images to a crucial decision support system, GlobalData said.
