A new pocket-sized visualisation tool has been launched by General Electric (GE) Healthcare to provide South African physicians with imaging capabilities at the point of care.

The Vscan holds ultrasmart ultrasound technology that provides doctors with an immediate, non-invasive method to help secure visual information about what is happening inside the body.

The portable device, which is the size of a smartphone, can easily be carried from room to room to be used in many clinical, hospital or primary care settings, according to engineeringnews.co.za.

Vscan features include an online portal that provides users with training tools for the product, and basic clinical applications with sections on imaging technique, anatomy and troubleshooting, a battery charger station and battery life of one hour’s scanning.
