A bright light therapy box that helps to treat chronic health problems such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), depression, bipolar disorder and sleep problems has been developed by a US manufacturer.

The bright light box treatment, developed by Alaska Northern Lights, affects the pineal gland’s production of melatonin, a hormone that helps prevent and relieve symptoms of depression.

According to the manufacturers, the bright light therapy box is a safe and inexpensive alternative to prescription drugs, which can cause side effects such as sleep eating and sleep driving.

Alaska Northern Lights president Cort Christie said that using this treatment daily can reduce time lost from work and reduced productivity.

“The bright light box treatment used for SAD also works well for insomnia and other health problems,” Christie said.
