Abbott Laboratories has launched its new balloon catheter in Europe to assist in the treatment of coronary artery disease.
The TREK Coronary Dilatation Catheter gives physicians the option to pre-dilate (open) a lesion before a stent is inserted. Pre-dilation has been shown to improve results when the stent is later expanded in a blood vessel.

Abbott says that this new design will help physicians treat challenging lesions and difficult-to-reach blockages.
The TREK system is available in 77 sizes and two designs, including the specialised MINI-TREK catheter, which is suitable for accessing smaller vessels.
The catheter was awarded the CE mark earlier this year. It is not available in the US.
