American Medical Systems (AMS) has launched the new GreenLight Xcelerated Performance System (XPS) for the laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, at the American Urological Association’s (AUA) Annual Meeting in San Francisco, US.

The new system offers better treatment efficiency with greater fibre longevity and improved coagulation capabilities using AMS’s GreenLight PV and HPS laser systems technology.

According to AMS, the use of GreenLight involves lower morbidity, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and lower costs.

GreenLight XPS features FiberLife, a safety feature that decreases fibre-related failures by up to 90%, allowing the treatment of larger glands with a single fibre.

“GreenLight XPS provides the most compelling alternative to TURP therapies and furthers our commitment to fostering a new standard of care for treating enlarged prostate,” said Joe Martin, AMS senior vice-president and manager of BPH therapies.
