A portable telemonitoring reference system that allows patients and physicians to conduct health screenings at home or remotely has been developed by Freescale Semiconductor.
The Intelligent Hospital kiosk helps patients send their personal vital signs and medical tests remotely to a healthcare provider for monitoring.
The kiosk features a touch-sensitive interface to switch between different modes of operation in an effort to improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs.
A magnetic card reader recognises patient data which is transmitted via USB or Zigbee to a PC or server where an electronic medical record can be stored.
Freescale Semiconductor used its own Tower Design System in developing the kiosk and touch sensors to help reduce costs and increase mechanical design flexibility.
Freescale partnered with IT firm Pounce Consulting, which developed a customisable platform that Freescale used to develop the kiosk.
