Wright Medical Group has commercially launched its system for split-thickness skin grafting via a minimised donor site.
The XPANSION Micrografting System is a single-use disposable instrument kit that can deliver the effectiveness of conventional auto-grafting techniques in an outpatient setting.
It is designed to harvest, expand and apply split-thickness skin micro-autografts on both chronic and acute wounds.
Micrografting allows greater wound coverage with reduced patient morbidity, delivered at a lower cost.
The company explained that the XPANSION’s ability to “micro-morselise” a very small skin graft delivers wound site coverage of up to 100 times the size of the donor site graft.
It added that the device could have limb and life-saving implications in the treatment of large traumatic and burn wounds where donor skin may be limited.
