Curexo Technology Corporation’s next-generation ROBODOC Surgical System has been used in the US for the first time, assisting in a hip replacement operation.

Dr William Bargar, the surgeon at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, California, who carried out the operation, used ROBODOC to mill the bone surfaces, ensuring the exact fit and position of the hip implant based on the pre-operative plan.

The surgery is planned on a computer workstation called ORTHODOC using 3D data from a CT scan. The surgeon then plans the optimal implant location and orientation, and uploads the data to ROBODOC.

The surgeon maintains complete control of the robot as it carries out the patient-specific plan.

The new ROBODOC Surgical System is the only “active” robotic system cleared for orthopaedic surgery by the US Food and Drug Administration.
