An advanced hybrid robotic operating room has opened at Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center in Texas, US, offering cardiovascular patients less invasive and safer surgical treatment.
The robotic operating room houses Siemens Artis Zeego, a highly flexible robotic system that makes it easy for the physicians to visualise the patient’s organs from all angles.
A high-speed CT scanner, which is attached to the end of the robotic arm, instantly creates dimensional images of complex anatomy or overlapping blood vessels.
The robotic operating room also houses a Hansen robot that helps control catheter movement, thereby making the procedures safe and precise.
Chair of cardiovascular surgery Dr Alan Lumsden said the interface of three dimensional imaging and robotic navigation would permit increased accuracy in advanced endovascular procedures.
