Dublin City University is coordinating a €3m international project to develop a new type of blood test.

The device will be disposable, and only need a pin-prick blood sample to deliver results.

It will use printed electronics technology, which enables electronic devices to be printed in layers on a plastic surface.

The device will be able to measure cholesterol, glucose and urea levels, and present test results on a small display screen on the device.

The project is EU funded.
