Scientists from the University of Ulster, Queen’s University Hospital and the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital are developing a foetal surveillance system to alert doctors if a baby is at risk of stillbirth.

The researchers are currently developing computer programmmes that can assess the health of the baby by analysing its movements through ultrasound scans.

Around 4,000 babies are stillborn each year in the UK.
