HealthBridge, a non-profit health information exchange organisation in Cincinnati, US, has received $13.8m in federal funding to help Cincinnati health providers to better use information technology.

The grant comes from the $787bn American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of early 2009, of which about $22bn was allocated to help doctors adopt electronic medical records.

The adoption of information technology by doctors would help in reducing costs and medical errors in hospitals.

HealthBridge’s technology connects 29 Cincinnati hospitals, 17 health departments, more than 4,400 physicians and several nursing homes, clinics and physician offices to allow easier sharing of patient data.
