Two hospitals in Vancouver, Canada, have been given C$90.5m ($87m) by the British Columbia provincial government for the first phase of a redevelopment plan.
The redevelopment of The BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital will take place in three phases and is estimated to cost around C$700m ($679m).
The first phase is expected to start immediately, and will include the opening of three additional neonatal intensive care unit beds at BC Women’s Hospital.
The work at BC Children’s Hospital and Shaughnessy building will include site preparations for new hospital, additional space for the faculty of medicine MD programme, construction of clinical support building and a child day-care centre.
The second and third phase of redevelopment will include construction of new BC Children’s Hospital and redevelopment and expansion of BC Women’s Hospital.
Both hospitals are agencies of the Provincial Health Services Authority.
