Two mental health wards in Sussex, UK, are to close as a part of major changes to mental health services in the region.

The mental health wards in The Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, and St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, will be closed.

A further 20 beds from in Eastbourne District General Hospital’s department of psychiatry will also be moved.

There will be however, more mental health professionals working along GPs to provide advice and support as a part of improvement in mental health services across the county.

The operating hours for community mental health services will also be longer and new services for people with dementia will be introduced, according to the BBC.

The Princess Royal Hospital will have a new shared ward for people with physical health problems and dementia, and there will be an expansion of mental health liaison services in hospital emergency departments across the county.
