The global market for medical device electrodes is estimated to reach $976bn by 2015, according to a report by Global Industry Analysts.
The US and Europe will account for more than 70% of the market, but Asia-Pacific is projected to be the fastest growing market during the analysis period.
The global market will shift towards disposable electrodes rather than reusable ones, as they offer several advantages such as lower initial costs, elimination of cross contamination, and cutting down the lengthy sterilisation process, the report added.
ECG electrodes are projected to represent the largest segment of the electrodes market, while TENS electrodes and ion-selective electrodes represent the two fastest growing markets.
