What is the Global Healthcare and Pharma Market Q2 Outlook?

Given the background of high inflation, re-emerging supply chain issues, and the widespread macro-economic implications of the Ukraine conflict, the global pharmaceutical industry is facing an entirely new set of challenges following the turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic. GlobalData’s World Markets Healthcare (WMH) service has released its latest Q2 forecast. This report incorporates the latest thinking on the opportunities and risks this new environment presents for pharma companies. However, the pharma sector is proving resilient, and we are projecting 4.4% global growth for the year ahead. Yet it remains that the current economic picture is inverting some baseline assumptions from previous quarterly forecasts and altering which markets we expect the key growth levers to derive from. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the US has formed a partnership with the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to develop a multidisciplinary oncology programme.

Under the ten year agreement, MD Anderson will aid in converting HIAE’s oncology department into the one of the best cancer care centres in South America.

MD Anderson business affairs senior vice president Dan Fontaine said the collaboration would help in the worldwide fight against cancer.

"Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein is one of the most respected hospitals in Latin America, the region’s leading acute care provider and a collaborator capable of, and committed to, implementing our multidisciplinary, research-driven patient care model," Fontaine said.

The programme will focus on radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, diagnostic imaging, nursing, pathology and pharmacy.

The hospitals expect to develop centres of excellence, initially in breast, prostate, thoracic, gastrointestinal and hematology cancers, and later expanding to all cancer diagnoses.

MD Anderson Department of Radiation Oncology professor and the project clinical lead Deborah Kuban added: "Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein will incorporate MD Anderson’s multidisciplinary approach to oncology care to address the cancer burden in Brazil, and MD Anderson advances its mission by extending its reach to South America."
